Neurodegenerative diseases

Neurodegenerative disease is a term assigned to a group of diseases that affect the nervous system (brain and spinal cord), are progressive degeneration and/or neuronal death. This kind of diseases, unfortunately, are incurable and produce a serie of debilitating conditions; actually to exist varied research about this topic.

Some examples of neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease (PD) and PD-related disorders, Prion disease, Motor neurone diseases (MND), Huntington’s Disease (HD), Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) and Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA); but in animals this topic do not have much relevant as in humans medicine.

The process of neurodegeneration is not well-understood, do not exist a cure for this disease
Do not exist a cure for these diseases because the process of neurodegeneration is not well-understood. Palliative treatments are performed, that is to say the disease symptoms but not controlled.

In Veterinary Medicine: numerous neurodegenerative diseases have also been described in domestic animals but relatively little work has been reported. Degenerative Myelopathy in dogs, is a fatal, neurodegenerative disease characterized by a general lack of coordination of muscle movements in the pelvic limbs. (185 words)

    this is a very interesting subject, it's a shame that is not given the necessary importance in animals.
